Since April 2026, civitai.com shows nothing explicit. Every NSFW checkpoint, LoRA, and image the site is famous for now lives at civitai.red, and generating adult content there means paying in crypto. That single change reshapes what a Civitai review has to cover, because the platform most people remember (one site, card payments, toggle mature content on and go) doesn’t exist anymore.
What does exist is still the largest library of uncensored image models anywhere, plus an on-site generator that runs them without a GPU. Civitai is a community hub for open-source generative models. The 2026 Split: civitai.com vs civitai.red
Here’s the background, kept short. Payment processors gave Civitai an ultimatum in early 2025: drop NSFW or lose card processing. Civitai kept the NSFW and lost the cards. It limped along on crypto, launched a sanitized “Civitai Green” mirror to win cards back, and in October 2025 split Buzz into three colors. Then in April 2026 it consolidated all of that into two front doors:

Worth noting though: the library shrank in a few places. Real-person likeness content (celebrities, influencers, anyone real) was removed in May 2025 and stays banned. Content tied to Stability AI’s core models rated R or above came down after Stability changed its license in mid-2025. And a handful of extreme categories were banned outright. You pick a base checkpoint, add up to several LoRAs at chosen weights, and control steps, sampler, guidance, seed, and resolution. It’s closer to a hosted Automatic1111 than to a consumer app with three sliders.
That’s the strength and the problem. If you already know what a LoRA weight of 0.7 does, the on-site generator is the cheapest way to test models before downloading them. If you don’t, the first hour is confusing, and a tool like Promptchan gets you explicit output faster.

The math is friendly. At 5 Buzz per SDXL image, 10,000 Buzz is somewhere around 2,000 images a month, which is far more than any $10 consumer app gives you. The unfriendly part is the payment rail. To generate explicit content on-site you’re buying crypto through Coinbase or NowPayments, and that alone will filter out a lot of people who just wanted to type a card number. Free users can still earn Blue Buzz daily, but as far as we can tell it won’t unlock NSFW generation without a membership, and the exact rules have shifted several times in a year. Expect them to shift again.

Yes, but on civitai.red, not civitai.com. The main domain went SFW-only in April 2026 so it could take card payments again. Everything explicit, including NSFW on-site generation, moved to the .red domain.
Can I generate NSFW images on Civitai for free?
Reportedly not anymore. Free daily Blue Buzz works for SFW generation, but NSFW generation on civitai.red appears to require a membership or Yellow Buzz bought with crypto. Downloading NSFW models to run locally is still free.
