Fooocus NSFW Guide: Uncensored SDXL for People Who Hate Settings

Fooocus is a free, open-source image generator from lllyasviel, the same developer behind ControlNet and Forge. You unzip it, double-click a file, and type a prompt. That’s the pitch. For NSFW work it matters because Fooocus has no content filter switched on by default, runs any SDXL checkpoint you give it, and works on graphics cards that ComfyUI users would laugh at.

This Fooocus NSFW guide covers the install, the one setting that can silently black out your images, which uncensored models to load, and where Fooocus runs out of road. If you want maximum control, our ComfyUI NSFW guide is the power-user route. If you want the best raw quality, Flux uncensored wins. Fooocus is the bottom rung of that ladder, and honestly, it’s the rung most people should start on.

Does Fooocus Allow NSFW?

Yes. Fooocus itself doesn’t block explicit prompts. What you get out depends almost entirely on the checkpoint loaded.

Two caveats:

  • The “Black Out NSFW” toggle. Fooocus added an optional NSFW checker in version 2.3. It lives under Advanced, then Developer Debug Mode. It’s off by default, but some forks, Colab notebooks, and preset configs ship with it on. If your images come back solid black, that’s why. Untick it.
  • The default model is cautious. Fooocus downloads Juggernaut XL on first launch. It can do nudity, but it was trained mostly on general photography and tends toward tasteful, half-clothed results. For explicit output you’ll want a different checkpoint (covered below).

So “Fooocus uncensored” isn’t a special version. It’s regular Fooocus with the right model and that one box unchecked.

Hardware: Where Fooocus Beats Everything Else

This is the main reason to pick Fooocus. Its memory management is unusually good, and the official README lists 4GB of VRAM as the minimum for RTX cards.

GPUFooocus experience
RTX 3090/4090/5090 (24GB)Fast. 5-10 seconds per image on Speed preset
RTX 4060 Ti / 4070 (8-16GB)Comfortable. 10-25 seconds
RTX 3060 / 2060 (6-12GB)Fine. 20-45 seconds
RTX cards with 4GBWorks, slowly. A minute or more
GTX 10-series (8GB)Runs, but reportedly only a bit faster than CPU
AMD (Windows)DirectML support, 8GB+, expect it to be slow
Apple SiliconRuns via terminal on MPS. Users say it’s several times slower than a mid-range NVIDIA card

The catch is system RAM. Fooocus leans on your page file to swap SDXL weights around, so you want 16GB of RAM and a large virtual memory allowance (the README suggests around 40GB on Windows) on an SSD. Skip that and low-VRAM cards will crash on load.

Installing Fooocus (Windows, 5 Minutes)

  1. Download the Windows 7z package from the Fooocus GitHub releases page.
  2. Extract it somewhere with 30GB+ free space.
  3. Double-click run.bat. There’s also run_anime.bat and run_realistic.bat, which load different default presets.
  4. Wait. The first launch downloads several gigabytes of models.
  5. A browser tab opens at 127.0.0.1:7865. Type a prompt, hit Generate.

No Python install, no Git, no virtual environments. That’s the whole thing. Linux users clone the repo and run python entry_with_update.py. Mac users do the same in Terminal with a conda environment.

One-click launchers like Pinokio also install Fooocus if you’d rather not touch files at all.

The Best Fooocus NSFW Models

Fooocus only supports SDXL-family checkpoints. That still covers most of what people actually use for adult content. Drop downloaded .safetensors files into Fooocus/models/checkpoints/ and pick them under Advanced, then Models.

Checkpoint typeGood forNotes
Juggernaut XL (default)Softcore, glamourSafe-leaning, great skin and lighting
Realistic NSFW SDXL mergesExplicit photorealSearch Civitai’s SDXL filter for “NSFW” + “photoreal”
Pony Diffusion V6 XLExplicit anime, furry, hentaiNeeds score_9, score_8_up tags at the start of prompts
Illustrious / NoobAIExplicit animeNewer, better hands than Pony in many tests
Pony realism mergesExplicit photoreal-ishMost explicit option on SDXL. Quality varies a lot

Where to get them? Civitai is still the biggest source, though its recent split and payment purges pushed some creators elsewhere. Our Civitai alternatives roundup lists the mirrors and model hubs that kept NSFW checkpoints up. For a broader comparison of which open weights are actually uncensored, see our best uncensored AI models ranking.

LoRAs work too. Put them in models/loras/ and add them under Advanced, then Models. If you want to make your own, our NSFW LoRA training guide walks through it.

Settings That Matter for Explicit Output

Fooocus hides most knobs on purpose. A handful are worth changing.

Turn off Fooocus V2 style for Pony models. Fooocus runs your prompt through a small GPT-2 model that “expands” it with extra keywords. With Juggernaut it helps. With Pony and Illustrious it fights the tag-based prompting and dilutes explicit terms. Uncheck “Fooocus V2” under Styles and also drop “Fooocus Enhance” and “Fooocus Sharp” when you’re using anime checkpoints.

Use the negative prompt. Fooocus has one, under Advanced. A basic NSFW negative: deformed, extra fingers, bad anatomy, clothing, censored, mosaic, watermark. Adding “clothing” and “censored” does a lot of work on cautious models.

Pick a performance preset. Speed (30 steps) is the default and fine for most use. Quality (60 steps) helps with skin detail. Extreme Speed and Lightning cut generation time hard but explicit anatomy suffers. I’d skip those for anything you care about.

Aspect ratio. Portrait ratios like 896×1152 give much better full-body results than square.

Prompt wording matters more than any of the above. Our NSFW AI prompts guide has templates for both natural-language and Pony-style tag prompts.

Inpainting, Upscaling, and the Other Tabs

Tick “Input Image” under the prompt box and four tabs show up. This is where Fooocus punches above its weight.

  • Inpaint or Outpaint. Fooocus ships its own inpaint model, and the results are reportedly cleaner than stock SDXL inpainting. Paint over an area, describe what goes there. Useful for fixing hands, changing outfits, or extending a crop. For the anime-specific version of this workflow, see our hentai decensoring and inpainting guide.
  • Upscale or Variation. 1.5x and 2x upscales that add detail rather than just enlarging. “Vary (Subtle)” is handy for small fixes without regenerating.
  • Image Prompt. Feed a reference image to steer pose, composition, or style.
  • FaceSwap. Uses InsightFace to carry a face from a reference into the output.

A blunt word on that last one. Putting a real person’s face on explicit images without their consent is illegal in a growing list of countries and US states, whether it was made locally or not. Running it on your own GPU doesn’t change that. Use FaceSwap for fictional characters or yourself. Our AI nudify laws breakdown covers where the lines currently sit.

Fooocus Limitations (Read Before You Commit)

Fooocus is in limited long-term support. The developer has said it’ll get bug fixes but not new model families. Practically, that means:

  • No Flux, no SD3, no Qwen-Image. SDXL only. If you want Flux-level prompt adherence, you’ll need Forge or ComfyUI. Our Flux vs Stable Diffusion NSFW comparison explains whether that upgrade is worth it.
  • No video. For image-to-video you’ll need ComfyUI and Wan.
  • Limited sampler control. You can change samplers and CFG under Developer Debug Mode, but Fooocus is opinionated and power users will feel boxed in.
  • Forks fill some gaps. RuinedFooocus and SimpleSDXL keep the simple interface and add newer features. Worth a look if you outgrow the original but don’t want nodes.

Thing is, for SDXL and Pony output, none of that matters much. The images look the same as they would in ComfyUI with the same model and seed.

Skip the Install Entirely

If your GPU is under 4GB, you’re on a work laptop, or you just want explicit images in the next two minutes, hosted generators are the honest answer. They cost money but need zero setup.

FAQ

Is Fooocus free?

Yes. It’s open source under GPL-3.0. Models are free downloads too. Your only costs are hardware and electricity.

Why are my Fooocus images black?

The “Black Out NSFW” option is on. Go to Advanced, enable Developer Debug Mode, and untick it. Some Colab notebooks and preset files enable it by default.

Can Fooocus run Pony Diffusion?

Yes. Pony V6 XL is an SDXL model, so Fooocus loads it fine. Turn off the Fooocus V2 style and start prompts with score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up.

Fooocus vs Forge vs ComfyUI for NSFW?

Fooocus is easiest and best on low VRAM, but SDXL only. Forge adds Flux and more settings with a familiar layout. ComfyUI does everything, including video, and takes the longest to learn. Plenty of people start on Fooocus and move to ComfyUI later.

Is it private?

Fully. Generation happens on your machine and nothing is uploaded. The only network traffic is the initial model download.

Bottom Line

If you’ve got an NVIDIA card with 6GB or more and have never run a local image model, install Fooocus tonight. Load a Pony or realistic NSFW SDXL checkpoint, untick Fooocus V2, check the NSFW blackout box is off, and you’ll be generating explicit images within the hour. Move to ComfyUI when you hit a wall, not before. And if your hardware can’t handle it, Seduced AI gets you similar SDXL-quality output in a browser.
